Copenhagen: The City of Fairy Tales

Our first stop is Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, which is full of fairy-tale-like colors. We first visited Nyhavn, a beautiful harbor area and the most famous canal in Copenhagen. Along the way, we admired the unique style of Danish architecture and tasted delicious Danish hot dogs. At the end of Nyhavn, we encountered the famous Little Mermaid statue. Sitting on the rocks by the sea, the statue exudes a lonely beauty.

In Copenhagen, I also stumbled upon an exotic restaurant. This restaurant not only offers authentic Danish cuisine but also serves dishes from all over the world. After tasting the delicious food, I chatted with the restaurant owner and learned about his inspiring story.

Aarhus: A Blend of Modern and Ancient

Next, we arrived in Aarhus, a city known for its modern architecture and ancient traditions. We first visited the Aarhus Art Museum, which houses art treasures from around the world. We paid special attention to the works of local Danish artists, discovering many innovative pieces.

Aarhus also has many charming historical sites. We toured Aarhus Cathedral, a 13th-century Gothic church with Denmark’s tallest spire. We also visited the Danish Open Air Museum – Old Town. Here, we traveled through a time tunnel and explored Denmark’s past rural life.

In addition, we strolled through the alleys of the city, feeling the leisurely atmosphere. In a local café, we tasted authentic Danish pastries and chatted with a Brit who has lived in Denmark for many years, learning about his love for the city.

Odense: In Search of the Origins of Fairy Tales

Our next stop is Odense, the hometown of the famous Danish fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. At the Hans Christian Andersen House Museum, we learned about the life of this fairy-tale master and even experienced Andersen’s handmade paper-cutting art.

In the evening, we had a few drinks at a local bar and talked to the locals about their views on Andersen. Surprisingly, during this exchange, we heard many little-known stories behind Andersen’s fairy tales. These stories made us admire the fairy-tale master even more.

Helsingør: Magnificent Coastal Scenery

Helsingør is our next stop, a city located between Denmark and Sweden in the Øresund Strait. Here, we visited Kronborg Castle, which used to be the summer palace of Danish kings. We traced the royal footsteps in the castle gardens, feeling a touch of royalty.

We also took a boat tour of the strait, admiring the magnificent coastal scenery between the two countries. In the center of the strait, we even discovered a mysterious small island. The scenery on the island was picturesque, making us linger and forget to return.

Roskilde: A World Heritage Tour

Next, we came to Roskilde, where the Roskilde Cathedral, a World Heritage site, is located. We prayed silently in the church, feeling the solemnity and sanctity of the ancient building. The sculptures and murals inside the church were vivid, telling stories of religion and history. During the visit, we also met a friendly guide who explained the church’s history and architectural features in detail.

Leaving Roskilde Cathedral, we headed to the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde city. Here, we saw five well-preserved Viking ships and learned about the maritime culture of the Viking era. After the visit, we took a stroll along the nearby seaside, experiencing the Danish sea breeze.

Skagen: A Seaside Holiday Destination

Skagen is our next stop, a beautiful seaside town known for its tranquil beaches and stunning scenery. We sunbathed and swam at the beach and even tried canoeing. Here, we spent a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon.

Local fishermen recommended a seafood restaurant to us, where we enjoyed a fresh seafood feast and watched the sunset from the restaurant’s terrace. With the sea breeze blowing, we savored the delicious food and enjoyed the leisure of vacation.

Møns Klint: A Majestic White Cliff Adventure

Our journey finally brought us to Møns Klint, famous for its majestic white cliffs. We walked along the cliffside path, admiring the azure sea below. At one viewpoint, we even encountered a group of dolphins jumping out of the water.

At Møns Klint, we also tried rock climbing. With professional guidance, we overcame our fears and successfully climbed the white cliffs. Standing on top, overlooking the sea and distant scenery, we felt the joy of conquering nature.

This Denmark trip has left me with many wonderful memories. Here, I experienced the local customs of Denmark, tasted the local specialties, and met many interesting people. Looking back at this Danish journey, from Copenhagen’s fairy-tale colors, Aarhus’s blend of modernity and antiquity, Odense’s origin of fairy tales, Helsingør’s magnificent coastal scenery, Roskilde’s World Heritage, Skagen’s seaside holiday destination, to Møns Klint’s majestic white cliffs, each stop brought us different surprises.
