My Icelandic journey started in Hvammstangi, a town perched on rugged cliffs. Here, I discovered a hidden paradise – the village of Latrabjarg. Nestled under the cliffs, the colourful houses were like jewels scattered across the green landscape. Adjacent to the village, the Latrabjarg waterfall was a sight to behold, with a rainbow formed by the mist in the sunlight, a natural shield protecting this peaceful enclave.

Bird Island: A Sanctuary for Seabirds

After leaving Latrabjarg, I ventured to nearby Bird Island, home to a multitude of seabirds. Among them, the most notable were puffins – the most populous seabirds in the world. The call of the puffins, combined with the sound of the waves hitting the rocks, created nature’s most beautiful symphony.

Akureyri: The Heart of Iceland

Akureyri Cathedral: A Symbol of Faith

From Hvammstangi, I set off for Akureyri, the transportation and cultural centre of Iceland. My first stop was Akureyri Cathedral, a landmark building known for its modern, minimalist design and its position overlooking the city. Here, I felt the power of faith, like a lighthouse illuminating the path ahead.

Old Town: Traces of History and Icelandic Cuisine

After sampling delicious traditional dishes such as Icelandic lamb soup and cod, I strolled through the old town. Walking past historic wooden houses, I was immersed in the rich history of Iceland. The colourful wooden houses brought a lively rainbow-like vitality to Akureyri.

Northern Lights: The Elves of Icelandic Nights

That evening, I was fortunate enough to witness the Northern Lights in Akureyri. Like elves dancing in the sky, the aurora borealis added a touch of mystery to the night sky in Akureyri.

Throughout my journey in Akureyri, I deeply experienced the natural beauty of Iceland and its unique cultural atmosphere.
