I chose to arrive in Interlaken in the morning. As I stepped off the train, a cool mountain breeze greeted me, carrying the fresh scent of the lakes and instantly invigorating my senses. The streets were lined with classic Swiss architecture—wooden balconies adorned with flowers—creating an atmosphere that was both tidy and welcoming. Though the town was small, every corner exuded a sense of perfect harmony with nature.

Ascending the Jungfrau: Awe Above the Clouds

On my first day in Interlaken, I couldn’t wait to head to the Jungfrau. As the cogwheel train slowly ascended, the passing scenery left me breathless: snow-capped peaks, steep valleys, and mirror-like lakes—everything was as picture-perfect as a postcard.

When the train reached the summit observation deck, I felt as though I were standing at the edge of the world. Endless snow-capped mountains stretched into the distance, and sunlight glinted dazzlingly off the glaciers; I had to put on sunglasses to fully appreciate this silvery-white realm. Breathing in the thin, crisp air, every inhalation felt like a cleansing of the soul. Standing at the summit, I could even hear the faint sound of the wind sweeping across the snow—a profound serenity and majesty impossible to experience in the city.

I strolled slowly along the path skirting the glacier, trying to imprint every angle of the view onto my memory. I kept snapping photos, yet I knew that no matter how beautiful the images were, they could never fully capture the awe of being there in person.

Lakeside Strolls: The Serenity of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz

After descending from the Jungfrau, I decided to spend a day relaxing by the lakes. Nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken boasts crystal-clear waters that mirror the sky and distant peaks. In the early morning, the lake is serene; the occasional small boat gliding by sends ripples across the surface, looking like delicate brushstrokes on a canvas.

As I strolled along the lakeshore, I noticed many locals enjoying their morning walks or jogs. Lakeside cafĂŠs were already open, so I ordered a hot coffee and a slice of Swiss cheesecake, savoring them slowly amidst the stunning scenery. This unhurried pace revealed another side of Interlaken to me: beyond the thrilling adventures, there is a deeply soothing tranquility.

At dusk, I took a boat tour on the lake. A gentle breeze brushed against my face as the setting sun bathed the water in golden hues, softening the outlines of the distant mountains. As the boat glided slowly along, the water lapped gently against the hull; accompanied by the sound of birdsong, it felt as though the entire world consisted only of me and the lake. Closing my eyes and taking a deep breath, I felt truly embraced by the Alps.

Paragliding: An Adrenaline Rush

Interlaken is also a world-renowned paragliding destination. The next day, I decided to challenge myself and give paragliding a try. Standing at the cliff’s edge, my heart raced; a drop of several hundred meters lay beneath me, and the wind whistled past. My instructor offered encouragement, helping me fasten my harness and adjust the paraglider wing.

With a light leap, I took to the air, suspended in the sky. Instantly, the town, the lakes, and the snow-capped mountains unfolded beneath me, resembling a vast aerial game. The wind roared in my ears—I almost forgot to breathe—yet the rush of adrenaline gave me an unprecedented sense of freedom. As I glided, I adjusted my direction, feeling the power of the wind and the sheer joy of flight. In that moment, I understood why Interlaken is hailed as an adventurer’s paradise.

Exploring Alpine Trails: The Joy of Hiking

After paragliding, I chose to explore the Alpine trails surrounding Interlaken on foot. Along the way, I passed lush green meadows, slopes carpeted in wildflowers, and winding mountain paths. As I walked, I occasionally encountered shepherds tending their flocks. Sunlight bathed the valley, and the air was filled with the fresh scent of grass and earth; with every step, it felt as though I were walking into a painting.

I paused to rest on a hillside and took out the lunch I had brought along—a sandwich and some fruit. Enjoying a simple meal while gazing at the boundless beauty around me, I found a pure, uncomplicated joy that allowed me to momentarily forget the hustle and bustle of the city and the pressures of daily life.

Alpine Nights: Serenity Beneath the Stars

On my final night in Interlaken, I chose to stay in a mountain-view chalet. The night sky was exceptionally clear and filled with twinkling stars; lying on the chalet’s terrace, I gazed at the silhouettes of distant snow-capped peaks. With only the sound of the wind and the occasional lapping of lake water against the shore, everything felt profoundly peaceful.

In that moment, I reflected on my entire journey in Interlaken: from the awe-inspiring majesty of the Jungfrau and the tranquility of the lakeside to the thrill of paragliding and the leisurely pace of hiking—every moment was deeply etched in my memory. Interlaken was more than just a tourist destination; it was like a friend—gentle yet empowering—helping me rediscover myself amidst nature and appreciate the breadth and depth of life.

My trip to Interlaken taught me that true travel is not merely about ticking off sightseeing spots; it is about connecting with nature, challenging oneself, and embracing peace and freedom. Every breath of mountain air, every view overlooking the lake, and every heart-pounding moment was a gift from the journey itself. I intend to carry this sense of awe and serenity with me as I continue my travels through Switzerland, ever in search of the next moment that makes my heart race with joy.
